Early Mathematics – Centro Interdisciplinario en Cognición para la Enseñanza y el Aprendizaje de la Universidad de la República (Interdisciplinary Center for Cognition, Teaching and Learning – Udelar) and Sociedad Uruguaya de Ciencias Cognitivas (Uruguayan Society of Cognitive Sciences)

This project seeks to strengthen numerical competencies in children aged 5 and 6, drawing on advances in neuroscience and mathematics education. It proposes a playful and innovative approach to consolidating the cognitive foundations of mathematical learning from the very beginning of schooling, combining hybrid teacher training, in-class technical support, and the use of innovative pedagogical tools such as the Magic Boxes. Following a successful pilot in 2025, Early Mathematics aims to consolidate a scalable model, including impact evaluation through a quasi-experimental design, generating empirical evidence to help inform future education policy in Uruguay.
