Football for Education: a day that brought together sports, values, and school communities
Montevideo, June 10, 2025 – Fundación ReachingU, in partnership with the Pelota al Medio program of the Ministry of the Interior and the UNESCO Office in Montevideo, held the first Football for Education event—an initiative that brought together Uruguayan football legends and 190 children from public schools in Casabó, Malvín Norte, Marconi, and Cruz de Carrasco.
The activity took place at the Old Christians Club and marked the kickoff of a project that combines sports, education, and solidarity, aiming to promote coexistence, respect, and teamwork through a meaningful experience. What was experienced on the field will continue in the classroom: each participating school will develop pedagogical activities to further explore the values of sport as part of their educational project.
“In Uruguay, football is identity and inspiration. We want to harness this shared language to connect dreams with opportunities and to sow values that can transform realities,” said Paula Mosera, Executive Director of Fundación ReachingU.
Inspiring heroes
Throughout the day, children played side by side with some of Uruguay’s most iconic football figures, who said yes from the start and participated with humility, joy, and commitment.
The players who took part were: Diego Aguirre, Álvaro Gutiérrez, Christian “Cebolla” Rodríguez, Gonzalo “Chory” Castro, Fabián Carini, Andrés Scotti, Juan Castillo, Darío Rodríguez, Álvaro “Tata” González, Juliana Castro, Yamila Badell, Daiana Farías, Vanina Sburlati, Sasha Larrea, and María Paz Vila.
