Fundación ReachingU supported Ronald McDonald House Charities Uruguay to build a room for learning and for families at the Pereira Rossell Hospital, the largest public health care center for children in Uruguay. The project provides the hospital’s young patients and their families with a special place to learn and rest.
The Pereira Rossell Hospital is the referral hospital for children in Uruguay; it receives children of the most vulnerable sectors from all over the country and provides care to more than 270,000 children annually.
The Family and School Room is the answer to a social need, since it provides a space unlike any other area at the Hospital, for rest and family reunion, as well as a place for formal and non-formal learning for the children being treated at the hospital.
While at hospital, children did not have a space especially adapted for their education, not only did this affect their education, but it also impaired their relationship with other children and their own self-esteem.
This project seeks to provide them with emotional support and promote their social, affective, and educational integration. It will also provide them with knowledge, strengthen their skills, and improve their chances of returning to class once they are discharged home.
The project provides the hospital’s young patients and their families with a special place to learn and rest. It is open to children from different social and economic contexts admitted with different conditions.
We are very happy to have worked together with
Ronald McDonald House Charities Uruguay to bring education to the children who are treated each year at the Pereira Rossell Hospital!
